Worldwide Auctioneers Totals $25m in Auburn

Worldwide Auctioneers’ 54th Annual Auburn auction in Auburn, Indiana wrapped with a full $25m in sales over Labor Day weekend. In total, 400 cars crossed the auction block, with 90% of those on offer finding new ownership.

High sale went to the event’s catalogue cover car: a recently restored ACD-certified 1932 Auburn 12-160A Boattail Speedster. It brought $1,022,500.

Star cars and supercars did well here, too, including the 1998 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster used in the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street.” It sold for $610,000. An ultra-exclusive 2024 Ferrari SF90 Spider Assetto Fiorano from the Lone Star Estate Collection sold for $830,000, and a well-optioned 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista Spider brought $555,000.

The Grateful Dead’s personal equipment truck, a 1949 Studebaker M5 formerly owned by the ‘Acid King’ Owsley Stanley, brought $91,200, and a 1952 Harley-Davidson Captain America Motorcycle — one of two choppers used in the cult 1969 film “Easy Rider” — sold for $246,400.

Worldwide also sold dedicated consignments to benefit the J. Kruse Education Center in support of veterans transitioning back into civilian life, as well as the Spread Ari’s Light Foundation: a nationwide initiative committed to brightening the lives of families facing pediatric cancer.

“We all love car week out in Monterey, but after the freneticism it was wholly rewarding to be back here in the Midwest in a car-culture centric, non-corporate and easily navigable venue that’s right at the heart of where this business started,” said Rod Egan, Principal and Auctioneer. “Thanks to the thousands of collectors, enthusiasts, friends and family who joined us here in Auburn to contribute to a fantastic event that sustained such positive energy and a great car vibe from start to finish, as well as delivering some universally outstanding results across all marques and eras.”

“We are thrilled that this year’s event once again lived up to its billing as America’s Favorite Auction. Bringing great cars together so our clients can have great experiences has been, and will continue to be, our objective,” said John Kruse, Principal and Auctioneer.
