This August, Broad Arrow Auctions will host their first-ever auction during Monterey Car Week. The sale is shaping up to be big, with a wide range of rare and valuable consignments on offer.
Included in the group is a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster, known as the Horn roadster, which is estimated at $7,000,000 to $8,000,000. This car is unique in a number of ways, including its one-off streamlined body and late production 5-speed manual transmission. This is one of the final — if not the final — 540Ks produced by Mercedes-Benz before war stopped customer car production, and it survived the war — and some time in the Soviet Union — before being driven across the border into Sweden by a former owner “on vacation.”
Later, it was owned by General William Lyon, and has inspected by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Germany and found to retain its original factory aluminum Typenschild, body, chassis, and engine ID plates. In 2012, it won a class award at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Broad Arrow’s Monterey Jet Center auction takes place on August 18, alongside Hagerty’s Motorlux event at the Monterey Jet Center.
