Second Annual Audrain Veteran Car Tour Hits the Road on April 30

There is still time to enter your pre-1908 vintage car, along with a driver and passenger, into the Second Annual Audrain Veteran Car Tour Presented by Bonhams on Sunday, April 30.

Tour participants — and their cars — will gather at the Audrain Automobile Museum, 222 Bellevue Ave., Newport, RI, 02840 on Sunday morning. The tour will depart the museum at 9:30 a.m.

Drivers will steer their Brass Era cars along Newport’s beaches before taking comfortable back roads through Middletown and Portsmouth. The tour will then cross the beautiful Mount Hope Bridge to Bristol, where the cars will start the return trip to the Audrain Automobile Museum.

Drivers will stop at The Aquidneck Club for lunch, and the cars will arrive back at the Audrain Automobile Museum by 3 p.m.

The tour weekend also includes Bonhams’ Two Generations Collection Auction at 250 W. Main Road, Middletown, R.I. 02842.

Bonhams will auction 35 Brass Era cars, along with collectible cars and automobilia, from an outstanding father-and-son collection on April 29. The auction will begin at 9 a.m. A preview day is scheduled for April 28.

“The Audrain Veteran Car Tour is a celebration of the early days of motoring, with many Brass Era car collectors from New England and across the United States taking part,” said Donald Osborne, Audrain’s CEO. “Our event is unique in the United States, and we hope that within a few years, it will become as popular as the world-famous London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, which has been in existence in England since the 1920s.

“After just one year, our event is already being referred to as the American London to Brighton, a reference we are immensely proud to support and repeat.” Osborne said. “This historic car-run promises to be an exciting celebration honoring the great history of the early days of motoring in Newport whilst offering enthusiastic owners a chance to use their antique motorcars in the manner for which they were indeed intended.”
