A 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster that has been in one family since it came off the factory line will go to auction on Sotheby’s Sealed from October 5-7, 2022.
Sotheby’s Sealed is the company’s private online sealed bid format.
The car has disc brakes, an alloy block and has been in single-family ownership for all of its 380,000 miles. Only 17 more 300SL cars came off the line after this car. The car has a pre-sale estimate of £1.5 million to £2 million.
The owner, Martin Cushway, is one of the leading 300SL experts in the United Kingdom, and his father, Ron Cushway, was the first owner. Martin Cushway’s mother, Trudy, rode to the hospital in this very car when she was ready to give birth to Martin. The car was used as a well-maintained daily driver for decades.
The Cushway family gave the car meticulous care — and some interesting (and reversible) modifications — such as an ABS brake system. The Cushway family drove the car throughout Europe many times.
The car comes with a treasure trove of original parts, accessories, documentation and photos.
