The world’s largest collector car auction is underway.
Mecum Kissimmee has steadily grown over the past decade into a massive affair — now spanning from January 7-19 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, FL. This year is the event’s 26th anniversary, with live broadcasts on MotorTrend TV and Max spanning 38 hours over 13 days. “Big” doesn’t really do it justice.
Auctions don’t get that big without great cars to draw in bidders, and Mecum’s brought in some heavy headliners this year: We’ve already discussed Steve McQueen’s Porsche 917K, and then there’s the first Porsche 910 produced, the 1967 Camaro Z28 Trans-Am racer that Mark Donohue used to win the 1968 Trans-Am Championship for Chevrolet, Richard Petty’s 1970 Superbird, the famous 1965 Shelby Cobra known as the “Essex Wire” car — thought to be the winningest Cobra of all time, the first Ford GT40 Mk1 Road Car delivered to a private customer, the 1932 Ford Tommy Foster Roadster awarded Most Outstanding Car of the inaugural 1953 Detroit Motorama, and on and on.
If you haven’t already gone to check out the consignments, here’s where you’ll find them. Be warned, though, as you’re about to lose at least an hour of time… there’s a lot to see.
This auction tends to set records each year, and more of the same can be expected for 2025 — and I’m not just talking about the overall total. Watch for some strong numbers out of the cars on offer, as well as some deals, as there are 4,500 cars on offer here.
