Bidding on Gooding & Company’s online-only Phil Hill Automobilia Collection/A Life in Racing ends on Friday, February 19, and there are some stunning items among the 307 lots.
My favorite is Lot 131, the Herbert Johnson Racing Helmet Worn by Phil Hill. The pre-sale estimate for this amazing relic is $80,000 to $110,000. Why so much? This helmet is part of racing history, as Hill wore it during his first Le Mans victory in 1958.
As of this writing, the bidding is at $17,000.
So, you’ve got less than 24 hours to look over the catalog, register — and perhaps make a bid or two. The catalog itself is fascinating reading.
The starting line is at www.goodingco.com
Good luck!
