If you’re in the market for unique exotics, Gooding & Co’s Geared Online Scottsdale catalog should have you excited.
The boutique auction house has consigned a 2020 Koenigsegg Regera to its upcoming online event, taking place starting on January 18. The pre-sale estimate on the car is $2,750,000 to $3,500,000.
The Regera is a pinnacle of hybrid performance, with a twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors producing a combined 1,500 hp. Instead of a transmission, the Regera uses an electric motor placed on the 1,100-hp V8’s crankshaft to get the car moving with instant torque — it sends power direct to the drive wheels via a fluid coupling. Then, at higher speeds, the gasoline engine takes over, maintaining thrust. It’s the first hybrid to run on 800 volts, and this example also has been fitted with the $250k Environmental Power Upgrade, which retunes the system for E85 fuel, adding 200 hp. That’s 1,700 hp for those of you counting.
As you might imagine, with only 80 built and all of them spoken for, these cars aren’t easy to get, and this one has just 389 miles from new and over $710,000 in added-on options from Koenigsegg. This is one of the first to become available on the auction market, so it will be interesting to see how it does.
If that’s not unique enough for you, Gooding still has you covered. How about a Citroën SM Land Speed Racer and matching SM tow rig?
With a Maserati engine and Citroën suspension, the SM is a fantastic assemblage — at least when everything is working properly. Jerry and Sylvia Hathaway made everything work on their race-spec 1972 SM, and the proof is in numerous land speed records over several years in the 1980s. Both Jerry and Sylvia joined the 200 mph club in this car, and it’s held a class record that stood for 23 years.
Of course, why have one when you can have two? When the Hathaway’s conventional tow rig was stolen, they turned another SM into a matching hauler to pull the racer. The tow rig and trailer feature complete Citroën hydraulic suspension, and both are independently height adjustable to allow for easy loading and unloading. When’s the last time you saw an SM with a fifth wheel? These lots will be sold together without reserve — estimate is $100,000 – $200,000.
The Geared Online Scottsdale event takes place on Monday, January 18 and runs through Friday, January 22. All the available lots will be housed at Gooding’s Southern California facility for pre-sale viewing.
