It has been (and is going to be) a star-filled spring and summer in the car world.
Last month, RM Sotheby’s announced the early consignment of Steve McQueen’s Ferrari 275 GTB/4 at its Monterey auction in August. The last time the car sold, it brought over $10m, in large part due to the “McQueen Factor” — the tendency of his ownership to raise prices well past the norm for similar examples.
Then, earlier this month, Bonhams set a new world record in Belgium for the Skyline GT-R R34 that Paul Walker drove in 2009’s “Fast and Furious.” Again, star power catapulted values to a new level — in this case, $1.3m for a car that likely won’t ever again reside in the place where it would be valued most.
And now, RM Sotheby’s has announced an online auction of Paul Newman-related automobilia.
The late Academy Award-winning actor was passionate about motorsport. He was a driver and team owner in the Can-Am days, as well as in the SCCA, IMSA and IndyCar worlds.
This auction will present 100 lots from the late actor’s estate, all offered at no reserve. The group includes race-worn fire suits, custom helmets, hats, framed photos, championship rings and more. See it all here.
The auction begins at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31 and runs through noon on Tuesday, June 12. Learn more here.
