Gooding Brings Hollywood Stardust to Arizona

It’s always cool to have a little Hollywood stardust sprinkled around a collector-car auction.

Back in August of 2021, Bonhams had movie superstar Tom Hanks’ Airstream trailer and towing truck at their Quail Lodge Auction during Monterey Car Week.

That big, aluminum trailer got as much attention as any of the blue-chip cars in Bonhams’ big white tent.

Stardust is coming to Arizona Auction Week — in the form of 10 cars from famous Hollywood director and producer Richard Donner.

Donner was a prolific television director — think “The Twilight Zone” and “Gilligan’s Island” — in the 1960s and 1970s. Later, he and his wife, Lauren Schuler Donner, produced blockbuster Hollywood franchises, such as the “X-Men” and “Lethal Weapon” movies.

Donner, who died in 2020 at age 91, also was an avid car enthusiast, and 10 cars from his collection will cross the block during Gooding & Company’s Geared Online Scottsdale Edition sale from January 24-28.

One of the cars is a gorgeous 1965 Porsche 356 SC that Donner bought in 1971.

The other cars in the Donner Collection are an eclectic bunch that include a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon, a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible and a 1962 Volkswagen Type 2 23-Window Deluxe Microbus.

Most of Gooding’s lots for the Geared Online Scottsdale Edition auction will be on display at Scottsdale — for registered bidders only — but all the bidding will be online for this sale.

For more information on the Richard Donner lots — and the other cars that will cross the virtual auction block — visit www.goodingco.com for more information, including on how to bid.
