A former Bugatti Factory Team 1931 Bugatti Type 51 Grand Prix will cross the block during Gooding & Company’s 2022 Pebble Beach Auction.
The Bugatti, Lot 170, has exceptional race and ownership provenance, and it is one of 20 remaining Bugatti Type 51 Grand Prix cars in existence. Famous fashion tycoon and car collector Ralph Lauren is a former owner.
The car was a Bugatti factory team car from 1931 to 1934.
The car competed in period racing and has also appeared at the Goodwood Revival and the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
The car underwent a five-year restoration at Crosthwaite & Gardiner from 1989 through 1994.
The car comes with a 100-page report by noted Bugatti historians David Sewell and Mark Morris.
Cars like this don’t come to auction very often, and the pre-sale estimate is $2,750,000 to $3,250,000.
The auction is scheduled for August 19-20 at the Parc du Concours at Pebble Beach.
