Amalgam Collection has revealed a very limited Signature Edition of its McLaren MCL36 full size steering wheel replicas, personally signed by McLaren Racing driver Lando Norris and McLaren Racing CEO (and Linkage columnist) Zak Brown. Limited to just ten pieces, the two signatures in white marker autographed onto each wheel’s information screen add a personal touch to these replicas.
The ten replicas were hand-signed by Lando and Zak at the McLaren Technology Centre on January 30, 2023.
“Zak is a close friend of Amalgam, and we have produced several models for him personally, alongside the many F1 and Automotive projects we have completed for McLaren since 2007,” said Sandy Copeman, Director of Brand. “It was great to meet Lando, a fellow Bristolian, in person for the first time.”
Each replica is furnished with an individually numbered plaque, along with a certificate of authenticity signed by Copeman.
These full size McLaren MCL36 replica steering wheels replicate the wheel used by Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo during the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship season. The series necessitated 1,200 hours of development, and the resulting prototype only received the approval of the McLaren Racing designers and engineers once they were fully satisfied with its accuracy of representation in weight, look and feel.
Measuring over 28cm (11in) wide, each subsequent replica took 120 hours to cast, fit, fettle, paint and assemble in Amalgam’s workshops. Built using original CAD designs provided by McLaren Racing, every wheel is complete with working buttons, switches and paddles, precisely crafted from the finest materials and components.
Models are available to order now, and Amalgam anticipates strong demand for the Signature Edition.
“This special edition is an exciting opportunity for a very few passionate McLaren fans to possess a beautiful replica with a direct connection to two of the most significant figures in the team today,” says Copeman.
